Mechanical / HVAC Changeout Permit Application

Nearly every jurisdiction requires a mechanical permit for a condenser, air handler, furnace, or full system changeout — even a like-for-like swap. The application is short, but the equipment data has to match the AHRI-rated combination on the invoice, or the inspector fails the final.

Who uses it

HVAC contractors, mechanical subs, and service companies performing changeouts, new installs, or ductwork alterations.

What the generated document includes

  • Equipment make, model and serial fields for the outdoor and indoor units
  • BTU / tonnage and SEER2 or AFUE efficiency rating
  • Job address, jurisdiction and property owner details
  • Mechanical contractor license, insurance and bond block

Mistakes that get it kicked back

  • Listing the outdoor unit only — most inspectors want the matched indoor coil or air handler model as well
  • Recording nominal tonnage instead of the rated capacity used for the efficiency certificate
  • Filing before the equipment is confirmed in stock, forcing an amended permit when the model changes

Requirements vary by jurisdiction. Always confirm final submittal requirements with the authority having jurisdiction before filing.
