Florida wind mitigation & roof-to-wall attachment affidavit

Florida jurisdictions and insurers want proof of how a roof is attached: deck nailing pattern, roof-to-wall connection, roof geometry, secondary water resistance and opening protection. Contractors are routinely asked for this documentation at re-roof permit close-out and again when the homeowner files for an insurance credit.

What goes on the Florida version

  • Roof deck attachment (fastener type and spacing) and roof-to-wall connection description
  • Roof geometry — hip, gable or flat — and FBC compliance year
  • Secondary water resistance (SWR) statement
  • Opening protection level and the signing contractor's license block

Florida is one of our code-tuned states, so the packet builder also flags the state-specific attachments this scope triggers before you file.

Mistakes that get it kicked back

  • Describing clips when the field photos show single or double wraps
  • Leaving SWR blank, which voids the homeowner's biggest insurance credit
  • Using the permit year instead of the actual FBC compliance year for the structure
